The other day, my kids spotted a butterfly on our way back from kindergarten, and that was all they could talk about when we got home.“Mama, can we make butterflies?” You know how kids are, once they get excited about something, it becomes the theme of the entire afternoon.
So I decided to do what most moms do when we want something simple and not overwhelming. I grabbed some toilet paper rolls sitting in my craft shelf and started creating a simple butterfly craft template on Canva, and honestly, it turned out to be one of the easiest spring crafts for kids we’ve done in a while.
So, if you’re looking for an easy spring craft for toddlers and preschoolers, this toilet roll butterfly craft would work perfectly for you and your kids.

Why I made this butterfly craft printable
Spring is such a fun season for crafts, and apart from that, it’s my favourite season of the year. It comes with literally the most beautiful friends – butterflies, flowers, sunshine, and it’s the one season kids naturally get excited about.
But let’s be real for a second……
You know how you go on Google to look for easy crafts, and sometimes all you see are spring crafts that look beautiful but feel overwhelming actually to make? And by step number three into making the craft, your three-year-old is already running away?
That’s one of the reasons I created this butterfly craft template. I wanted to do something that: busy moms can set up quickly, toddlers can actually finish, uses materials we already have in our homes, and not-so-crafty moms can pull off easily. Also, I thought, “This would be such a fun way to reuse toilet paper rolls instead of throwing them away,” – those rolls pile up quickly in our house anyway.
What you’ll need for this butterfly craft
The materials are intentionally simple, so you don’t have to scramble to find them.
Supplies
- Printed butterfly template
- 1 toilet paper roll
- Scissors
- Glue stick or child-safe glue
What’s inside the butterfly printable pack
When I designed this printable, I wanted to make sure it stayed simple but still exciting for kids.
Here’s what’s inside the pack:
- 4 butterfly designs (Coloured and black & white versions)
- cheerful colourful wings
- butterfly faces
- body strips that wrap perfectly around the toilet paper roll
There’s also a 1-page instruction guide included so moms can quickly follow the steps without overthinking the setup. Everything is designed so that kids can manage it easily.

How to make it (Simple steps)
- Print out your template on A4 regular paper.
- Cut along each body part, carefully.
- Glue the body strip around your toilet paper roll.
- Attach the wings to the back of the roll using glue.
- Add the face on top and decorate if you want to get fancy!
- Let it dry, then let those butterflies fly (or buzz around the living room).

Why this is a great spring craft for kids
This simple butterfly craft works so well because it checks all the boxes that moms have on their craft checklist, such as easy setup, inexpensive materials, toddler-friendly steps, and encourages creativity. Most importantly, it’s the kind of craft kids actually finish and feel proud of. Which is always the goal, right?
